Graphic and graphological expert’s report
A graphological expert’s report is basically a comparison between two handwritten texts, in order to make an identification. Therefore, its main purpose is to identify
Analysing all the structural and expressive features of a graphic text, in order to look for concrete elements in it, representing the graphomotor nature of the person who wrote it, is used to identify the writer’s hand.
A graphological expert’s report on handwritten texts is one of the most difficult to perform, not so much due to the type of analysis in itself, but because a person’s handwriting undergoes continuous changes. As a matter of fact, a graphology expert, Klages Ludwig, in “The Science of Character” wrote that “each element in the series looks like the previous ones, and yet it is different from the other ones, each time in a different way”. So, writing is a series of activities including cerebral, psychic, neuromuscular (physiopsychic product) components, mirroring the changeable flow of life, which is never identical to itself.
A graphic gesture is not only conditioned by individual features, but also by the current environment and the sensorial and emotional stimuli which reach the cortical nervous centres at the time of the graphic production. In 1981 Roger W. Sperry, Nobel laureate for Medicine, defined the following principle: “all that leaves our thinking mechanism ends up in the motor system”; this also holds true for writing.
